07-24-2008 - Serv-U Localization & Improved HOST Support
Hello,
Welcome to another installment of the RhinoSoft.com newsletter. You are getting this newsletter because you signed up on our web site. If you would like to stop receiving these newsletters, please visit: http://www.RhinoSoft.com/newsletter/unsubscribe.asp
The intent of this newsletter is to give you some pointers on each of our products. This newsletter discusses the multi-lingual support in Serv-U and new improvements to the Virtual Host feature.
Feature Spotlight - Multiple Languages
With international business comes the challenge of providing service to customers and partners in multiple locales. One sign of a well- developed business is one that is able to service customers in their native language, which makes doing business a more comfortable and familiar process.
The new design of Serv-U allows for far-improved localization capabilities. Leveraging new methods used for user interface delivery, it becomes easier to serve up each aspect of the Serv-U File Server in any language desired. RhinoSoft.com has taken advantage of this possibility by offering a file server first - allowing both users and administrators to access and administer Serv-U in their native language with the click of a button. This means that no matter where users are, Serv-U is available to them in a familiar format.
The Serv-U Management Console can be accessed using:- English
- German
- Italian
- French
- Simplified Chinese
- Traditional Chinese
- Japanese
- Russian
- Swedish

Feature Spotlight - Improved Virtual Host Support
Serv-U 7.0 introduced the Virtual Hosts feature, allowing server administrators to assign multiple Serv-U domains to the same IP address. Accessing this feature required a client that supported the HOST command, which is used to notify the server of the client's desired domain. While this feature can greatly improve server accessibility in shared hosting situations, it also created a challenge as not all FTP clients currently support the HOST command.
Serv-U 7.2 now allows users to specify a Virtual Host with the use of a delimiter character between the domain name and the user name itself. This allows any FTP client to use Virtual Hosts without needing to download and install a different application or waiting for the application to be updated with support for this powerful new feature.
To utilize this feature, first configure your Virtual Hosts on the server. Once this has been completed, users logging in should first enter the domain name they are connecting to, e.g., ftp.RhinoSoft.com, then a "pipe" (accessed by holding down Shift and entering the "\" character), followed by the username. For example, a user named "ftpuser1" can access the "ftp.RhinoSoft.com" Virtual Host by specifying a username of "ftp.RhinoSoft.com|ftpuser1".
