Managed File Transfer Costs Less After Serv-U Ships Reverse Proxy
May 10, 2012
Serv-U Platinum now provides a managed file transfer server and reverse proxy priced less than $5,000, or less than $10,000 if clustered. This allows IT departments with tight budgets satisfy secure file transfer requirements found in PCI DSS and many corporate security policies.
(Helenville, Wisconsin) - Today RhinoSoft announced the release of an affordable reverse proxy server that fulfills PCI DSS and similarly stringent security requirements.
"The reverse proxy architecture has been used by the managed file transfer industry to fulfill PCI DSS, HIPAA HITECH, SOX, FISMA, DISA, and other tough security and privacy requirements for years," said Jonathan Lampe, RhinoSoft VP of Product Management. "What we did differently is build a affordable and easy-to-deploy solution that lets IT deploy a two-over-two clustered solution for under ten thousand dollars."
All of Serv-U's existing file transfer interfaces are available through Serv-U Gateway, including its mobile transfer, web transfer, FTP, FTPS, SFTP (SSH), and web administration interfaces. Both IPv6 and IPv4 are also supported on all interfaces, and Serv-U's FIPS-validated cryptography has been extended to the proxy server as well.
"This design ensures that no data at rest is ever in the DMZ, encrypted or otherwise," said Mark Peterson, RhinoSoft President and Chief Architect. "Furthermore, Serv-U Gateway never needs to open any connection from the DMZ into the internal network because all communication takes place over a secure control channel initiated by Serv-U into the DMZ."
Serv-U Gateway is available on Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, other Windows operating systems, and Linux distributions. Virtualization support includes EMC VMware, Oracle VirtualBox, and Amazon EC2 cloud services. Additional information about deployment options is now available in the new Serv-U Distributed Architecture Guide.
RhinoSoft is the global leader in affordable file transfer, with more than 90,000 business customers, including nine of the Fortune 10, in 90 different countries. (Helenville, Wisconsin) - Secure file transfer vendor RhinoSoft has awarded an exclusive distributorship covering Canada to C&C Software Solutions ("C&C"), a close partner in Canada for more than ten years.

"RhinoSoft's secure file transfer solutions are a perfect fit for our resellers," continued C&C CEO Joan Chandler. "They provide innovative features like iPad administration and Kindle Fire transfers at a surprisingly reasonable price."

Serv-U to Break the $5,000 Barrier on Managed File Transfer with New Reverse Proxy
April 11, 2012
Serv-U Platinum will soon provide a managed file transfer server and reverse proxy for less than $5,000, or less than $10,000 if clustered. This allows IT departments with tight budgets to satisfy secure file transfer requirements found in PCI DSS and many corporate security policies.
(Helenville, Wisconsin) - Today RhinoSoft announced that it will ship an affordable reverse proxy server to fulfill PCI DSS and similarly stringent security requirements in May 2012.
The proxy server will be called "Serv-U Gateway" and will be bundled with RhinoSoft's popular Serv-U Gold edition in a new Serv-U Platinum package. The total cost of Serv-U Platinum with one year of support will be just under $5,000, and could make Serv-U the best managed file transfer solution for budget-conscious IT departments seeking both a server and a gateway.
"The reverse proxy architecture has been used by the managed file transfer industry to fulfill PCI DSS and other high security requirements for years," said Jonathan Lampe, RhinoSoft VP of Product Management. "What we did differently is build a recession-proof product that lets IT deploy a two-over-two clustered solution for under ten thousand dollars."
All of Serv-U's existing file transfer interfaces will be available through Serv-U Gateway, including its mobile transfer, web transfer, FTP, FTPS, SFTP and web administration interfaces. Both IPv6 and IPv4 are also supported on all interfaces, and Serv-U's FIPS-validated cryptography has been extended to the proxy server as well.
"This design ensures that no data is ever stored in the DMZ, encrypted or otherwise," said Mark Peterson, RhinoSoft President and Chief Architect. "Furthermore, Serv-U Gateway never needs to open any connection from the DMZ into the internal network because all communication takes place over a secure control channel initiated by Serv-U behind the wall."
Serv-U Gateway will initially only be available on Windows, but a native Linux edition is also in testing and will be available shortly after the Windows edition is released.
Additional information about deployment options is now available in the new Serv-U Distributed Architecture Guide.

New iPad to Access Files from Anywhere via Serv-U FTP Server
March 19, 2012
New iPad owners can now access their files from anywhere through RhinoSoft's Serv-U FTP Server. Serv-U's newest web-based interface allows iPad users to view photos, thumbnails and documents online and get access to their work files when out of the office.
(Helenville, Wisconsin) - With the new iPad hitting stores this week quick-thinking software companies are already finding ways to tie them into existing business processes.
One of those companies is Wisconsin-based RhinoSoft, who announced iPad users can now access their files from anywhere when using Serv-U's mobile-optimized interface.
"We're tech junkies working for a tech company so we all have our iPhones, our iPads and now a higher-resolution iPad," said Jon Voss, the RhinoSoft developer leading his company's iPad initiative. "Like thousands of other companies we also use Serv-U to access our files on the server when we're on the road. From that perspective, supporting Serv-U on the new iPad was a complete no-brainer."
Serv-U's iPad interface is a mobile-optimized version of Serv-U's existing web transfer interface. iPad users may view photos, documents and thumbnails online, or they may download and delete files remotely. All access is controlled by Serv-U administrators or inherited Active Directory permissions and all transfers can be encrypted using 128-bit or 256-bit HTTPS.
On the back-end Serv-U frequently integrates with file shares, NAS, and SANs. When combined with Serv-U's zero-app interface, that capability means that most business users can securely access their work files from any iPad as soon as they leave the Apple Store.
"Right now, Serv-U is about the only secure file transfer server committed to supporting mobile devices such as the iPad," said Jonathan Lampe, RhinoSoft VP of Product Management. "Whether it's IPv6 support, 64-bit performance or news about iPad support, the market has grown to expect innovation from Serv-U."
In addition to the iPad, Serv-U already supports secure file transfer and online document viewing on Apple's iPod, iPhone and iPad and other mobile devices such as Google's Android phones, Amazon's Kindle Fire and RIM's Blackberry.
Support for mobile-based iPad administration is planned in for Serv-U version 12 release next quarter.

Serv-U FTP Server Added to Red Hat Linux Product Catalog
February 15, 2012
Serv-U FTP Server was added to the official Red Hat Linux product catalog as a secure file transfer application after RhinoSoft joined the Red Hat partner program as an ISV.
(Helenville, Wisconsin) - Serv-U FTP Server was added to the official Red Hat Linux product catalog as a secure file transfer application after RhinoSoft joined the Red Hat partner program as an independent software vendor (ISV).
"When we ported Serv-U to Linux last year it gave Linux administrators new capabilities like web-based administration, mobile transfers and integration with third-party portals," said RhinoSoft President Mark Peterson. "This year we reaffirmed our commitment to the Linux community by aligning with its largest platform provider."
In addition to Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Serv-U also supports Fedora, Ubuntu, OpenSUSE, Mint, CentOS and the Amazon Linux AMI for its EC2 cloud computing deployment.
"Our solutions make secure file transfer affordable to businesses, especially those facing budget challenges," said RhinoSoft VP of Product Management Jonathan Lampe. "Supporting Serv-U on a wide variety of platforms helps our customers save money through reduced training and overhead costs."
Despite its name the Red Hat product catalog is not an onsite store but rather a reference for Red Hat Linux customers looking for secure file transfer and other solutions.
"This is a great opportunity for our resellers to expand their footprint with existing customers or seek out new customers in the Red Hat Linux community," said Lampe. "Serv-U provides them a unique opportunity to provide secure file transfer for a price that should fit in anyone's 2012 IT budget."

Open API Permits Third-Party Provisioning in Serv-U FTP Server
February 01, 2012
RhinoSoft has published an integration guide and code samples that allow developers to use an open API to create and control user accounts, group membership, quotas and permissions on its Serv-U FTP server.
(Helenville, Wisconsin) - When former Ubuntu executive Matt Asay declared that the "next decade will be about open APIs" it was only a matter of time before new open API solutions appeared on the market.
One of the first to answer Asay's call was file transfer vendor RhinoSoft, who today exposed a powerful set of authentication options in the "Gold" edition of its popular Serv-U FTP server.
"Web hosting firms love Serv-U Gold because it has no limit on the number of domains or users, allows them to enforce quotas and provides built-in web transfer, iPhone, SFTP, and FTPS services," said RhinoSoft President Mark Peterson. "Our open API lets Serv-U customers and the 'control panel' community that supports them to manage and expose all this functionality through their own portals and web sites."
Serv-U's open API release includes a 40-page integration guide that describes how to create and control user accounts, group membership, quotas and permissions. The guide also includes the schema used to store configurations in the underlying Serv-U database, advanced information about password storage and permission flags, and code samples in PHP, ASP.NET and C#.
"Whether you run Serv-U on Linux or Windows, the interface is the same," said Thomas Parikka, a RhinoSoft Technical Support Engineer and lead author of the open API documentation. "The interface also works the same way across all our supported databases, including Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Database, MySQL and PostGres."

Managed File Transfer Pioneer Joins RhinoSoft
January 17, 2012
Managed File Transfer pioneer Jonathan Lampe, best known as the architect of MOVEit®, has joined RhinoSoft as its first vice president of product management.
(Helenville, Wisconsin) - Today RhinoSoft, a leading secure file transfer software vendor, announced that managed file transfer pioneer Jonathan Lampe has joined its executive team as vice president of product management.
"We are thrilled to welcome a leader who helped shape the industry," said RhinoSoft President Mark Peterson. "Lampe's experience will help us enter the managed file transfer industry with solutions that cut IT costs and improve ease-of-use."
Lampe is best known as the architect behind Standard Networks' MOVEit® managed file transfer brand, acquired by Ipswitch® in 2008. In 2009 Lampe was part of the management team that established Ipswitch as a "Leader" in Gartner's last Managed File Transfer Magic Quadrant. However, Lampe resigned in 2011 after Ipswitch acquired an EDI technology firm called MessageWay and shifted resources away from WS_FTP and MOVEit.
"When analysts started telling customers that Ipswitch's top file transfer brands would soon be retired in favor of MessageWay I knew it was time to move on," said Lampe.
Between Ipswitch and RhinoSoft Lampe helped several financial, energy and insurance firms develop and implement transmissions strategies as an independent file transfer consultant. Lampe also worked with several file transfer vendors on communications projects but was particularly impressed after working with RhinoSoft.
"By the time I met RhinoSoft they were already the top innovator in secure file transfer," said Lampe. "Whether you needed to access your files from a mobile device, from a browser, via a Chinese interface or over IPv6, RhinoSoft's Serv-U file server already had a solution."
Lampe is also excited about RhinoSoft's long-term prospects.
"In a highly competitive market, RhinoSoft is well-positioned to own the 'value' segment with affordable solutions that provide all the important benefits of legacy providers. RhinoSoft has also worked to position its brands as market leaders overseas and already earns about a quarter of its revenue from emerging economies."
In his new role Lampe will oversee RhinoSoft sales, marketing and business development. He will also serve as the voice of the enterprise in RhinoSoft product development.

(Helenville, Wisconsin) - Millions of people unwrapped a Kindle Fire this holiday season and quick-thinking software companies are already making sure the gift keeps on giving.
One of those companies is Wisconsin-based RhinoSoft, who announced Kindle Fire users can now access their files from anywhere when using Serv-U's mobile-optimized interface.
"We're tech junkies working for a tech company so we all have our Android, our iPad and now our Kindle Fire," said Mark Mayo, the RhinoSoft technical support engineer who originally suggested his company's Kindle Fire initiative. "Like thousands of other companies we also use Serv-U to access our files on the server when we're on the road. From that perspective, supporting Serv-U on the Kindle Fire was a complete no-brainer."
Serv-U's Kindle Fire interface is a mobile-optimized version of Serv-U's existing web transfer interface. All access is controlled by Serv-U administrators or inherited Active Directory permissions and all transfers can be encrypted using 128-bit or 256-bit HTTPS.

"Right now, Serv-U is about the only secure file transfer server committed to supporting mobile devices such as the Kindle Fire," said Jonathan Lampe, Chief Analyst at File Transfer Consulting. "Whether it's IPv6 support, 64-bit performance or news about Kindle Fire, I've grown to expect innovation from Serv-U."
