FTP Voyager 11.1 and Serv-U 5.1 Released
(Helenville, Wisconsin)-New versions of the most powerful FTP server/client combination were released by RhinoSoft.com today. The new versions of FTP Voyager and Serv-U further solidifies their position as industry leaders in FTP by introducing several major enhancements to increase transfer speeds and improve usability. Current license owners of FTP Voyager and Serv-U should visit the RhinoSoft.com web site to download their FREE upgrade.
"FTP Voyager 11.1 and Serv-U 5.1 implement on-the-fly data socket compression using an extension to the FTP protocol called MODE Z," said Mark P. Peterson, Vice President of RhinoSoft.com. "Compressing the content that is sent over the data socket is a fast operation so it requires very little processor time and it's extremely efficient. The transfer times for directory listings and text files is roughly 70-85% less when using MODE Z. Even compressed content like executables can achieve upwards of 50% compression. Combined with FTP Voyager's recently added Power Downloads, FTP Voyager can transfer in minutes what used to take an hour. With Serv-U's large and extensive user base, it's only a matter of time until everyone using FTP can benefit from this technology."
In addition, FTP Voyager and Serv-U now implement the CCC (Clear Command Channel) command. The CCC command is used after logging in to an SSL-secured FTP server. After the command is accepted, the FTP command socket is no longer encrypted. This enables NAT-enabled routers to once again follow along with the FTP transaction and anticipate opening ports in response to PASV and PORT commands. Because the data socket is still encrypted, transfers are still secure.
